Mrs. Balsley was born in Mitchell county March 28, 1860, to Simon and Rachel Yount. Her parents died when she was a child and she was later adopted by Mr. and Mrs. John Caswell. She attended the Mitchell county schools.
March 28, 1881, she was married to Jasper Balsley. They engaged in farming in Mitchell county for many years before retiring to Osage. Mr. Balsley died in Osage about eight months ago. Mrs. Balsley was a member of the Methodist church and also of the Marshalltown chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were one daughter and two sons.
