Services for James Jesse Grimes were held in the Merkel Methodist Church. Mr. Grimes died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. T.T. Duncan who lived at the Corner of Poplar and 11th Street in Abilene. Mr. Grimes came to West Texas in 1904 and has since made his home in Bronte and Winters. His wife died at the home of his son in Merkel on 15 October 1924. Mr. Grimes was a resident of Bronte for years. Survived by his sons - Robert Grimes, a banker in Merkel, Raymond Grimes, Frank Grimes; daughters - Alice Duncan, Vida Howard, Minnie Hartfield, Bessie Kight, Annie Hicks; brothers - Robert A. Grimes, John Grimes, T.L. Grimes; sisters - Nan Armstrong, Cora Swaim, Lizzie Armstrong. Mr. Grimes' father was one of the first settlers of Bell County, Texas.
