SPRINGFIELD - Charles Ray "Old Goat" Clinton, 76, a lifelong resident of Springfield, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at Capitol Care Center.

He was born Nov 1, 1933, in McAlester, OK, the son of Homer Clinton and Juanita Baugh.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; and a sister.

He is survived by four sons, Tony (Jenny) Clinton of Dawson, Lyndal (Lori) Clinton of Carlinville, Terry (Tammy) Clinton and Tim (Penny) Clinton of Springfield; a sister, Louise Ramsey of McAlester, OK; seven grandchildren, Cassidie (Luke) Meiseman, Chas (Amber Smith), Cody, Katie, and Jessi Clinton, all of Springfield, and Emily and Tucker Clinton of Carlinville; four stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Charles was a mechanic for several Amoco stations before his retirement. He loved animals, NASCAR, and playing Sunday night poker.

A casual, come as you are memorial gathering will be held on March 7, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, 409 E. Lake Dr, Springfield with Sandi Woodard, officiating. A luncheon will follow the service.

It was Charles' wish that his remains be donated to medical research
