LYMAN ISAIAH BAKER.
An Old, Well-Known Citizen
Gone to His Reward.
Mr. Lyman I. Baker died at his
home in Spring Valley Thursday
morning at 4 o'clock a. m.. of pneumonia.
He had been ailing the
past seven weeks with paralysis
but his death was a great surprise
to all. Mr. Baker was born in New
York state in 1829. At an early
date he came west, settling in
Illinois where he married Miss
Betsy E. Mason, November 9th,
1847. In 1857 he moved to Minnesota
and settled in Etna where
he lived until he moved to Spring
Valley. He served as a volunteer
in Co. I, 11th Regt. Minnesota,
Seven children were born to Mr.
and Mrs. Baker, all of whom live to
mourn the death of father and the
mother who died about four years
ago. The children are Melvin E.,
Frank A., and Clark W., of Spring
Valley Ed. M. of Illinois City, 111
Chas. W., of Rock Island, 111. Mrs.
Phoebe L. Sample, of Etna, Minn
and Clara L. B. Viall, of Preston,
Minn.
Mr. Baker was one of the early
settlers and a man universally
loved. He was a member of the
First Baptist church of Etna where
his membership remained until
God's call to eternal rest. The services
were in charge of his old
comrades, Burdick Post No. 3, G.
A. R., of this city. The services
were held Saturday afternoon, Sept,
20th, at the Baptist church in
Spring Valley, Pastor C. V. Smith
preaching the sermon. Many
friends and relatives saw the one
whom they loved taken from their
midst to rest beside his beloved
wife in the Spring Valley cemetery.

On 8/24/1864 he mustered into "I" Co. MN 11th Infantry
He was Mustered Out on 6/26/1865 at St Paul, MN
