Mr. Childs was born in Monroe County and was the son of the late Charles J. Childs, Sr. and Nora Pulliam Childs. He was retired owner and operator of City Dry Cleaners. Mr. Childs was a member of Forsyth United Methodist Church, member and past president of Forsyth Exchange Club, former Forsyth City Council member, worked with the youth and helped organize the Pony League Baseball and worked with the Girl Scouts of America. He was a veteran of the United States Army National Guard. Mr. Childs will be remembered for all his helpfulness to friends and neighbors, as well as his community.
Mr. Childs is survived by his wife, Mildred Stewart Childs of Forsyth; children, Jackie Childs Pirkle of Atlanta, Sue Childs Fowler of Riverdale, Cheryl Childs of Forsyth and Karen Childs Hewett of Loudon, Tennessee; son, David Jack Childs, Jr. of McDonough; brothers, Charles J. Childs and Alvah R. Childs of Forsyth; Ten
Grandchildren and Five Great Grandchildren.
The family will greet friends from 7:00 until 9:00P.M., Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Monroe County Hospital Foundation, 88 Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, Forsyth, GA 31029.
