In the 1951 version of the movie The Day the Earth Stood Still, his grave was visited by his son Bobby (played by Billy Gray), who told Klaatu/Mr. Carpenter (played by Michael Rennie) that his father was killed at Anzio.

Robert James Benson was KIA near Morey, France. He was with Co K, 318th Inf Regt. Inf as a Platoon Leader. He was assigned to Co K 11 September 1944.
He never served and definitely not killed at Anzio Italy. He never married and had NO children. The story line in reference to The Day the Earth Stood Still, is misleading and erroneous information.
