FAIRFAX – Otis Berlett Deer, 99, died Wednesday in the Allendale County Hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Deer was born in Ulmer, a son of the late Henry Washington and Mary Rebecca Harter Deer. He was a retired farmer and a graduate of Hartsville Military Academy.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. D. K. (Lois) Smith of Columbia and Mrs. Charles M. (Mary Alice) Miley Jr. of Brunson; two sons, Otis M. Deer of Hickory, N.C., and V.S. "Vic" Deer of Newington, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. Virginia D. Cone and Mrs. Lee D. Brant of Fairfax; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 4 p.m. today in Smith Funeral Home of Allendale with burial in the Fairfax Cemetery.
