The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hinghaus, Wilhelmina was married to Herman Abel. They were the parents of 6 children.

Herman was a farmer, and the family lived on their farm, located on Columbia Bottoms Road/Riverview Drive.

After Herman died in 1927, Wilhelmina took over and managed the farm. 3 of her children who never married, William, Rose and Carrie, lived at home all of their lives and helped her run the farm.

Wilhelmina died as a result of chronic heart disease 5 days after her 79th birthday.

She was survived by her 5 daughters, Louise Husemann, Anna Lueke, Minnie Filges, Rose Abel and Carrie Abel; 1 son, William Abel; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and extended family members.

Visitation was held at the family home until 12:30 p.m. on 24 Jan 1938. Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. that afternoon at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Columbia Bottoms, Missouri. She was buried next to her husband, Herman.

After her death, William, Rose and Carrie continued to run the farm. However, William died suddenly in May of 1938.
