Edwin Nathaniel Baumberger, age 88 of north of Greenville, passed away at 8:11 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 in the Emergency Room of Greenville Regional Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home with Rev. James Howie officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. Monday at the Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home. For those who desire, memorials may be made to the Reno-Bethel Presbyterian Church or Reno Cemetery Association.

Edwin Nathaniel Baumberger, the son of Nathaniel Dressor Baumberger and Lola Inez Weber Baumberger, was born on September 22, 1921 on the Baumberger Farm near Reno, Illinois. He grew up there and attended the Reno Schools and graduated from Greenville High School. He was a truck driver for a time. He answered his countries call by joining the United States Army on October 9, 1942 at Camp Grant. He rose to the rank of Corporal serving overseas where he helped build the Burma Road serving in the India-Burma and Central Burma. He was awarded the Victory Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Ribbon with 2 bronze battle stars with 5 overseas Service Bars, The service Stripe, Good Conduct Medal and District Unit Badge. He was honorably discharged and returned to Bond County where he owned and operated the Baumberger Farm.

Edwin and Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Alexander were united in marriage on June 3, 1951 in Earlville and have enjoyed over 58 years together. She survives as do three of their four children: Nancy Baumberger Nowlin of Greenville, Jody Gehrig of Alhambra, Illinois and Kurt Baumberger now on the Baumberger farm north of Greenville, 5 grandchildern: Joseph & Daniel Baumberger, Jeremy Cagle, Callie Durborow and Tate Gehrig, 2 great grandchildren: Natalie and Ellie Cagle, and 2 siblings, Jean Reelitz of Greenville and Fred ( Bessie) Baumberger of Greenville.

Edwin is preceded in death by their son Kent Charles Baumberger in infancy, by his parents Nathaniel and Lola Weber Baumberger, by his step mother Betty Dorris Mahon Baumberger, by his sister Helen Paine, and brother Keith Weber Baumberger.

Edwin is a member of the Reno-Bethel Presbyterian Church where he surved as an Elder and the treasurer, Ed was also on the Bethel Cemetery Board and was a trustee for the Superintendant of Schools.
