Amanda Matlock Upton Walters
Services for Lillie Amanda Matlock Upton Walters of Blessing were scheduled for noon today in the First Baptist Church in Blessing with the Revs. John Tripp and Larry Holden officiating.
Mrs. Walters, 78, was born Oct. 18, 1906, in Little Rock, Miss. She was a resident of Matagorda County from 1949. She was the manager of the Baptist Encampment Cafeteria for 18 years and the manager of the Blessing Hotel for 10 years. She taught Sunday school for 28 years. She was Past Worthy Matron of Palacios Chapter No. 125 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was Outstanding Senior Citizen of Matagorda County in 1980.
She died Jan. 5, 1984, in St. Luke's Hospital in Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, E. B. Upton; a daughter, Ginger Ann Upton; and a son, Jack Upton.
She is survived by her husband Henry Walters of Blessing; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Tommy Jahns of Louise; two stepdaughters, Doris Malone of Houston and Edith Byrne of San Antonio; a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Faye Upton of McRae, Ark.; a son, Ken Upton of Lafayette; one sister Anna Lou Matlock Walch of Ganado; two brothers, Joe Matlock of Encinitas, Calif., and Odis Matlock of Shreveport, La.; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two nephews and three nieces.
Contributions may be made to the memorial fund of the Blessing Baptist Church. Burial will be in Ganado Cemetery. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
