Donald John "Donnie" Sutton, age 65, of Fernandina Beach, FL, passed away peacefully Saturday, March 6, 2010 surrounded by loved ones at his home.

A lifelong resident of Fernandina Beach, Mr. Sutton was born November 10, 1944 and was the son of Betty Sutton and the late Bill Sutton.

A 1962 graduate of FBHS, Donnie lettered in baseball and football. He then served in the army from 1962-1965. In 1964, he married his high school sweet heart, Sherry Lang.

Following his service in the army, Donnie worked in the railroad industry for 35 years, retiring in 2000 from CSX transportation.

Donnie was an avid fisherman of the many Fernandina waterways his entire life. He fished with his friends and family from the beach, the jetties, the docks and piers, and his boat, "Fish-n-Grits". He also played men's softball for more than 20 years and coached his daughters' softball team, the Mermaids. His family will always treasure the great fisherman, Gator fan, college fund, "Sorry" player, dog lover, baby sitter, Putt-Putt player, Thomas the Train fan, and Master of the Clicker.

He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Sherry Lang Sutton; daughters Buffy (Joe) Spillane and Nancy (Kevin) Roberts of Fernandina Beach; mother, Betty Sutton; sister, Carolyn (Randy) Price of Orange Park; and five grandchildren Donny, Bethy, and Conor Spillane, Joey and Caleb Roberts; two nieces, two great nieces, a great nephew and many dear friends.

His family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm on Tuesday at Oxley-Heard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday at Memorial United Methodist Church, with pastors Bret Opalinski and Hollie Tapley officiating.

The family is accepting floral tributes or donations may be made to the Pastor's Fund of Memorial United Methodist Church, 601 Centre Street, Fernandina Beach, FL. Mr. Sutton will be laid to rest in Bosque Bello Cemetery. Please Sign the Guestbook @ Jacksonville.com
