OBITUARY, The Sioux City Journal, 29 April 1997:

John Ernest Coon, 83, of Bushnell, Illinois, formerly of Anthon, died Tuesday, April 22, 1997, at the McDonough District Hospital in Macomb, Illinois. Graveside services were held Friday, April 25, in Bushnell Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Bushnell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1422. Martin-Hollis Funeral Home in Bushnell was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Coon was born April 15, 1914, in Anthon, the son of Aaron and Cora (Pierce) Coon. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a farmer. Mr. Coon was a member of the Methodist Church in Bushnell.

Survivors include a son, Danny E. Coon of Killeen, Texas; a daughter, Linda M. Reed of Columbia Heights, Minnesota; three grandchildren; a great-grandchild; a brother, Clifford Coon of Sioux City; and a sister, Lucille Dennis of Holstein, Iowa. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

Burial: 25 April 1997, Bushnell Cemetery, McDonough Co., Illinois
