Jesse was a soldier in the 18th. Regiment, Texas Cavalry under Colonel Nicholas H. Darnell. After the Regiment was organized in 1862, the unit was soon dismounted and ordered to Arkansas where in January, 1863, it was captured at the Battle of Arkansas Post, Fort Hindman. The battle began on January 9, 1863 and ended on January 11, 1863. After it's capture and being exchanged, it was consolidated with the 17th., 24th., and 25th. Texas Cavalry Regiments, and went on to fight battles in Tennessee.
Family records Jesse's death on January 7, 1863. Did he die just two days before the Battle of Arkansas Post from some illness, or did he die from injury during the three days of battle, January 9-11,1863?
Jesse is the son of James Walker Moore and Matilda Dean Moore, and the first husband of Rebeca Washington Walker.
