Verna Vandeventer, 86, Harrison correspondent for The Times, died Saturday at Miller's Merry Manor, where she resided. She had been ill for some time.

The daughter of Thomas Emerson and Daisy Greenwood Brown, she was born March 24, 1905 in White River Township, Johnson County. She formerly lived in the Banta community.

She attended Franklin College, Indiana University School of Nursing and Vincennes University. She had been a private duty nurse, and she also taught piano lessons privately for 23 years.

Besides the Times, she was also a news correspondent for the Martinsville Daily Reporter, Franklin Daily Journal, the former Franklin Evening Star and the old Marion County Mail.

She was a 68 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star chapter at Waverly and belonged to the Alexander Hamilton chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the Union, Mooresville Senior Citizens and the Banta United Methodist Church.

Surviving are a brother, William Hugh Brown of Savannah, Ga, two nieces, and two nephews. Two other brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
