CHAMBERS, CAROLYN ANN - of Lenoir City, cherished by her family, treasured by her many friends, and loved by everyone blessed to know her well, passed away Saturday morning, October 10th, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospice in Knoxville.

Carolyn was well known for her abundant social graces and generous sense of humor. Her warm smile and contagious laughter came as genuine expressions of her natural ability to see the humor and positive side of life's situations. Carolyn's laughter and wonderfully disarming wit and charm easily drew others close to her.

Carolyn was the daughter of D. A. and Edith Weaver, both now deceased. She grew up in Lake City, Tennessee and graduated from Lake City High School in 1955.

She and her husband, Dr. Raymond Chambers, who survives her, had been high school sweethearts. Carolyn majored in Business Administration at East Tennessee State College and the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. On September 25, 1959, she and her husband were married. Last month, Dr. Raymond and Carolyn Chambers celebrated, together with their family, their 50th wedding anniversary.

Carolyn taught elementary school while living in Memphis where her husband attended Dental School, but they soon made Oak Ridge their home. Carolyn was a member of Central Baptist Church where she was an active volunteer. She also provided volunteer service for the Children's Museum in Oak Ridge and was a member of both the Anderson County Health Council and the Tennessee Dental Auxiliary Association.

She and her husband moved to Lenoir City approximately five years ago and became members of First Baptist Church Concord in Farragut, Tennessee. Carolyn was a member of the Avalon Bible Study group and was a volunteer at Fort Loudon Hospital. She and her husband traveled together on the mission field as a dental care team during a mission trip to Chile. Carolyn was a long time member of the P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization), a pioneer society for women whose mission is to promote and motivate educational opportunities for women through scholarships, grants, awards, loans, etc.

Carolyn had a wide range of wonderful skills and interests. She worshipped the Lord, loved music, played the piano, read ferociously, and painted beautiful paintings of family members. She was the listening ear, the voice of wisdom, and the motivated helper. She worked hard to meet the needs of others and was always ready to walk the next mile. Carolyn loved to travel and easily forged lasting bonds of friendship with her zest for adventure and her beautifully sincere smile. Carolyn greatest interest was her family. She coordinated family vacations and loved bringing the family together for celebration meals on all occasions. She brought joy to her role of wife, mother, grandmother, and mother-in-law.

In addition to her husband, Carolyn is survived by her two daughters, Sherri Ann Crisp and her husband, Rusty Crisp and their children, Rachel Leighann Crisp and Sarah Elisabeth Crisp of Farragut, and Leigh Johnson and her husband, Scott Johnson and their children Carolina Madelyn Johnson and Makenna Kaitlyn Johnson also of Farragut. She is also survived by her niece, Diane Agee and husband Kyle Agee of Clinton, and Diane's children Thomas H. Solomon of Clinton, and Denise Bilbrey and her husband Mike Bilbrey, and their children Thomas Bilbrey and Savannah Bilbrey of Knoxville. Carolyn was preceded in death by her sister Dorthea Lou Steele.

The family will welcome friends Tuesday, October 13, from 6 - 8:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge prior to a funeral service in honor of Carolyn's life at 8:00 p.m. The Rev. Steve Peek will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, at Lakeview Cemetery in Lenoir City.
