In 1925, Cristy graduated from the Indiana (Pennsylvania) State Normal School, now Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Both sisters taught in the McKeesport public schools for many years. After retiring, the two sisters traveled extensively, sailing to and from Europe several times aboard the S.S. United States.
During the latter decades of their lives, Cristy and Melissa moved from the family's Victorian house to a newer house in White Oak. They thoroughly enjoyed each other and got along beautifully, whether working in their little rose garden, teaching Sunday school at Central Presbyterian Church, or completing ambitious crafts projects. The sisters were experts in sewing, embroidery, crocheting, tatting, knitting, and needlepoint, and their work lives on.
Cristy, Melissa, and Cree are buried at Richland Cemetery with most of their Dickson, Pearce, Hopkins, and Hodgson kin.
