Margery Lois Scheffel, 83, died at 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at her residence with her family at her side.
She was born Feb. 3, 1927, in Nutwood, one of two children born to Paul J. and Ruth (Bartlett) Russell.
As a young lady she had worked at the International Shoe Factory in Jerseyville and at Olin in East Alton, but the majority of her time, efforts and love were showered upon her family, which was the center of her life.
She married Frank B. Scheffel on Oct. 20, 1965. They shared nearly 35 years together before his death in 1990.
Suriviving are her eight children and their spouses, Ruth Ann Swarringim, Linda and James Holmes, Jack Huett, Bernard Russell Spangle and Robert Spangle all of Jerseyville, David and Brenda Spangle of Bridge City, Texas, Lisa and Fred Summers of Grafton, and Lana Scheffel of Brighton; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother, Paul and Edith Russell; her mother and stepfather, Ruth and Chris Kraushaar; a daughter, Janice Tepen; a son-in-law, Barry Settles, and a brother, Paul J. Russell Jr.
A private family visitation will take place on Friday, March 12.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville. The Rev. Wilbur Cain will officiate.
Burial will take place at the Borlin Cemetery in rural Carrollton.
