L/Cpl Joel Halliwell of the 11th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers was awarded the V.C. having captured an enemy horse, rode out under heavy rifle and machine gun fire, and rescued a wounded man. He repeated this performance and succeeded in rescuing one officer and nine other ranks. The above action took place during the Battle of the River Aisne in France 25th July 1918.
He died on 14th June 1958 aged 76 years and is buried in Section D.1068 of the cemetery.
He was the son of James and Sarah Halliwell.
