RALPH E BATES: Yakima; 76, died Friday after noon [7-20] in Yakima Valley Memorial Hosp. MrBates was born in Pleasantville IA & at the age of 14 moved with his parents the late Mr-MrsAndrew Bates to Gallatin Valley MT where he grew up on a farm. MrBates married Bessie Pitman on 23 Aug 1916 in Bozeman MT & in 1935 they moved to Yakima. Before retiring, he was a boiler operator for Libby, McNeill & Libby Co. He attended West Side Bapitist Church. A son Marvin died in 1946.
Survivors include his wife Bessie-at home; 5 sons: DudleyA Bates-Jamestown ND; RalphR Bates-Roseburg OR; MelvinR Bates-Fruitland ID; Harland Bates-Kennewick & RonaldJ Bates-Pasco; 4 daus: GeraldineE Parent-Butte MT; Dorothy Hutchens & Rosalee Marples-both of Yakima; JoAnn Lake-Auburn; a brother Russell Bates-ColumbiaFalls MT; a sister MrsMaude Carpenter-Helena MT; 26 grandchildren & 19 gr grandchildren.
Service for MrBates will be held Monday after noon [7-23] in the Keith & Keith 9th Avenue Chapel. The RevHal Campbell, Pastor of the West Side Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in West Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests that if friends desire, memorials may be given to the West Side Baptist Church Christian School
