Irene "Rene" (Analavage) Wernicki, 82, Spring Township, died of a massive stroke on March 8, 2010, in Reading Hospital.

Born in Mahanoy City on Aug. 20, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Gierot) Analavage, and the wife of Alexander Wernicki, who died on June 29, 1998.
A member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield, Irene was a multi-talented seamstress who learned the art of sewing from her aunt and her employment at Oritsky's in Reading in the 1940s.

She could create anything from custom upholstered furniture to perfect replicas of clothes from any fashion magazine.

Irene loved to dance the polka, sing Polish songs and eat gwimpki and subs.

She hated housework and loved yard sales; she loved gardening but hated weeding. And she loved to shop, but only for a bargain.

Irene took great pride in her five children and two grandchildren. Her lifelong passion was to support all of their dreams and ambitions.

Irene is survived by her four children: Gloria Homer, wife of Jeremy W. Homer, Wyoming, Del.; Alice Wernicki, Zionsville, Ind.; John E. Wernicki, husband of Debbie Stiller-Wernicki, Cumru Township; and Alexander Charles Wernicki, Spring Township.

Other survivors include two grandchildren, Daniel C. Homer and Alexander J. Homer, both of Wyoming, Del.

There are also three siblings surviving: Virginia Dziki, wife of Joseph Dziki, Muhlenberg Township; Edward Analavage, husband of Patricia Analavage, Hartford, Wisc.; and Mary Ann Kirkpatrick, widow of Richard Kirkpatrick, Wernersville.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Geraldine Wernicki, who died April 8, 1983, and was also predeceased by two siblings, Dorothy Bricker and Robert Analavage.

Irene requested no memorial event be held in her honor. The family is compiling relatives' and friends' remembrances of Irene. Please send your remembrances to Jeremy W. Homer, c/o Parkowski, Guerke and Swayze, 116 W. Water St., Dover, DE, 19904.
