Elizabeth was born in Newcastle on Tyne, Northumberland Tyne and Wear, England.

Her father was Timothy Taylor (1841-1876) born in Oldham Laing Daird (below town). Her mother was Mary Ann Calvert (1876-1898).

Elizabeth had 14 siblings:

Hannah born 1853;
Sarah 1854-1924;
Amy born 1858;
Margaret 1859-1924;
Dinah 1862-1941;
Amy 1862-1904;
Jane A. born 1864;
Thomas born 1865
Henry Shaw 1866-1932
John 1869-1948;
Mary Ann 1873-1946;
Ellen 1875-1946
George born 1884;
Florence Mary (1886-1928)

All the children and the parents were born in England.

Elizabeth married David Bartram 1859-1918.

Alternate sirname spelling "Bertram".

Elizabeth and David had two children:

Arnold Taylor Bartram (1901-1968)
David Bertram born 1902.

Elizabeth's husband, David Bartram, had an accident while coal mining, and was bedridden for the rest of his life. He died in 1918. Elizabeth took in washing to feed the family, so she led a very hard life. In 1928 she immigrated to New South Wales Australia on a 5 year indenture. She married Henry Farey in 1933, once the indenture was completed. They had a small farm in Peak Hill, New South Wales, Australia. At some point Henry and Elizabeth moved into Peak Hill. He died in November 1961 and is buried in Peak Hill Cemetery. Elizabeth is known for her knitting, and she always sent her knitted mittens to all of her grandchildren in Canada and England. She kept in touch constantly with both of her sons via mail, and also David's relatives in England, and so there was no loss of connection with her direct family or her "by marriage" family. Once Elizabeth passed away, the connection was then lost. Members of Henry Farey's family have stated they had no knowledge of any of Elizabeth's family. The author of this biography finds that rather hard to understand. Arnold and David, Elizabeth's sons were told that when Elizabeth died she was pennyless, however one wonders how that could be, since Henry and Elizabeth owned a house in Peak Hill. Upon checking the photograph of her grave, it was in very bad shape, but has since been repaired. The photograph was sent by the local post master in Peak Hill, upon request of Elizabeth's grandchildren. She spent approximately 18 month in hospital during the last stage of her life, the reason is unknown. It is very comforting to her grandchildren, and to her sons that Elizabeth had a much better life than in England in her "golden" years, but it came at a price, being away from her family. It is possible that she had an uncle near Peak Hill, but that has not been proven. Elizabeth and her oldest son Arnold were close, and shared many laughs, having the same sense of humor.
