Thaddeus H. Walker, a well known and respected citizen, died at his home, 143 Ridge street, at 11:45 yesterday morning, aged sixty two years. Deceased had been ill about a year. He was born in Manchester, Vt., September 12, 1833, and in early childhood his parents moved to Salem, Washington county. When nineteen years of age Mr. Walker went to Kansas and located in Topeka, where he was engaged in the real estate business. At one time and up to about 1873 he was the largest land owner in the state. He became prominent in both local and state politics and represented his county in the assembly two terms. Afterward he was a candidate for state senator, but was defeated. In 1875 Mr. Walker moved to New York city, where he became a member of the stock exchange and conducted a brokerage business, dealing largely in western securities. He moved his family to Glens Falls about sixteen years ago, and with the exception of five years spent on Long Island, they have made this their home. Mr. Walker continued in business in New York until 1889, when failing health compelled him to retire from active life, and he joined his family here. Deceased was married to Miss Margaret E. Otis,, of Topeka, in 1870. He is survived by his wife and five children—Misses Pauline, Mary, Jennie, Sarah and Master Otis, all of Glens Falls. Also by the following brothers and sisters: George, of New York; Mrs. Albert J. Dwelle of Northwood, Iowa; Mrs. Mary W. Williams, Mrs. Lydia S. Sherman and John D. Walker, of Salem. The funeral arrangements have not been completed. The body will be taken to Salem for burial.
