OBITUARY: JOHN KNOP
- The entire community is in deep sorrow over the death of Mr. John Knop, who died at his home in Ellinwood, Kansas, Tuesday, May 13, 1919, at 8:55 a.m. at the age of seventy-six years and thirteen days. Mr. Knop has been failing in health very rapidly the past few months and although he had been very ill this winter, his death was not looked for and was quite a shock to his dear family, who gave him every care and comfort possible in his illness and in trying to restore him to health again, but his advanced age made it impossible, and "death" peacefully came and ended his sufferings.
- John Knop was born in Randolph county, Ill., and died at this home in Ellinwood, Kansas, Tuesday, May 13, 1919, and was 76 years and 13 days of age. In 1862, he was united in marriage to Miss Dreta Dunsing in Illiopolis, and three years later, they moved to Ellinwood, Kansas upon the farm and he was among the pioneer farmers of the community, who endured the severe hardships here, during the earlier days, in the time when this community was sparsely settled, and by his eccentric habits and his thrift, he soon became one of the community's wealthy and progressive farmers.
- Nineteen years ago Mr. Knop retired from extensive farming, but continued to make his home on the farm with his son, George Knop and family, where his death occurred.
- Besides his dear wife, three daughters, Mrs. Sophia Panning, Mrs. Dreta Roth, Ellinwood, and Mrs. Alice Ohm of Offerle, and five sons, John Knop jr., Will Knop, Preston, Herman Knop, Louis Knop and George Knop survive. Adolph Knop, Henry Knop, and Fred Knop died in infancy, while two daughters, Mrs. Mary Schindler of this city died in 1912 and Mrs. Emma Schwerdtfeger of Preston died in 1916.
- Funeral services will be conducted from the home at 2:00, the the Lutheran church in this city at 2:30 o'clock p.m., Thursday, May 15, 1919.
