John Lawrence Beck, 89, passed away Saturday night after a prolong¬ed illness. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon in the Pleasant Hill church with burial in the cemetery there, in Howard township. He was born in Ohio in 1852 and married in Howard township in 1877 to Phoebe Catherine Liston. To this union were born five children, Oscar of Garwin; Mrs. D. J. Thompson of Montour; Mrs. Will Eckhardt and Roy Beck of Toledo, and Eliza who preceded him in death. An adopted daughter, Mrs. Iona Hartwell of Gilman also survives. He leaves sixteen grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. John Mathern and Mrs. Mary Ann Coleman of Toledo; and three brothers, James of Hill City, Minnesota; and Wash and Charles of Toledo. Three brothers preceded him in death.
