Graveside services for John O. Akers, 103, of Dougherty were Aug. 6, 2007, at the Dougherty Cemetery with the Rev. Willard McCartney Jr. and Chaplain Steve Mahan officiating.
Akers was born Jan. 17, 1904, in Foster, I.T., to William Oscar and Mertie May (Gibson) Akers and died Aug. 4, 2007, at Davis. He worked many years as a track foreman for the Southern Rock Asphalt Co.
He is survived by five children, Armenta McWethey, Harrel Akers and Douglas Akers, all of Dougherty, and Arlin Dee Akers and Darrel Akers, both of Sulphur, 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren and a brother.
Hale's Funeral Home of Davis was in charge of arrangements.
