Furd was born February 26, 1933, in LeFors, Texas. He was the second child born of A.F. Taylor, Sr., and Dicie Cleo Gilstrap Taylor. He is preceded in death by both parents, one brother, Allen F. Taylor, and one sister, Loy Laverne.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Dean Taylor of Baird, TX, and five children, Janice Klatt of Lubbock, TX, Jeanette Dickerson of Kirbyville, TX, A. F. Taylor III., of Post, TX, Ruth Ellen Stephens of Idalou, TX, and Winston Allen Taylor of Ackerly, TX, as well as ten grandchildren, Dustin Dorman of Kirbyville, TX, Jessica Dorman of Kirbyville, TX, Carly Klatt of Lubbock, TX, Jared Stephens of Idalou, TX, Kennesaw Stephens of Idalou, TX, Zachary Taylor of Ackerly, TX, Alanna Taylor of Ackerly, TX, Rose Taylor of Post, TX, Amber Taylor of Post, TX, and Aaron Taylor of Lubbock, TX, two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kyleigh Roberts, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Furd was a certified safety professional and worked in oil and gas safety and Risk Management. During his career he garnered multiple awards in safety achievement. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 through 1954 aboard the USS Quincy. He was a Korean War Veteran and rapidly achieved the rank of sergeant.
Furd graduated from Texas Tech University in 1959 with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He married Betty Dean Meyers on February 21, 1959, and was married for 51 years. He was an avid sports lover, especially auto racing. He was a gun enthusiast and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He loved his dog, Buddy.
Furd dedicated his life to his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all lives he touched with his kindness. He is now at peace with Jesus and His angels.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hendrick Hospice.
