"Mrs. Madge Walters Presson, 100, of Monroe died early Saturday morning at the Union Regional Medical Center in Monroe. Born September 9, 1901 in Union County she was a daughter of the late Durant and Hattie Cox Walters. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Sanford Presson. Mrs. Presson is survived by two sons, Bill Presson of Charlotte and Jim Presson of Mooresville, NC; three daughters, Kate Martin of Peachland, Norris Mattox of Charlotte and Peggy McCollum of Barnegate, NJ; two brothers, Herman Walters and Wayne Walters both of Monroe; 17 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sons, George, I.F., and Clay Presson; three daughters, Ruth Rape and Louise Stewart.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Madge will held Monday at 11 a.m. from the chapel of McEwen Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery. Rev. Dan Phipps will officiate the service. The family will receive friends Sunday from six to eight p.m. from the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Oakland Baptist Church, Building Fund, 600 East Sunset Drive, 28112."
