In 1879, he first moved from Limestone Co., Alabama, with his older brother Andrew N Walker, on a covered wagon. They were the first Alabama Walkers to move to Texas. It has long been said that he and Andy made this move out of their fear of losing their fiancees forever if they stayed in AL. These two young ladies they had been courting in AL, were moving with their father to the Hill county, TX area. As a result of the two Walker brothers following them to TX, it was a total success. The Walker brothers married these two young ladies and they all lived in Hill county, Texas area for many years. Eventually Joe moved his family to Sulpher, OK. Joe's real name was: Joel Riley Walker. Joel also had a 1st-cousin, Joel E Walker, (one of Hamilton Walker's many sons), who also moved to Oklahoma, sometime near or after the year 1900.
