CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Gladys Yancey Bracey Hodges died at her residence at The Colonnades in Charlottesville on April 21, 2002.

She was born on August 30, 1904 in South Hill, Va. to the late Robert Edward Yancey and Otelia Harris Yancey. She was the widow of Dr. Lucius H. Bracey and then of Y. Melvin Hodges, both of South Hill. Her brother, Robert Yancey, and six sisters, Willie Yancey, Olive Vassar, Grace Pleasants, Mary Allen, Louise Dugger, and Frances Poffenberger preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hodges was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and Roanoke College. She was an accomplished musician and studied piano and voice with Quincy Cole in Richmond.

Mrs. Hodges is survived by one daughter, Jean B. Read of Danville; one son, Lucius H. Bracey Jr. and his wife Pamela of Charlottesville; three grandchildren, L. Gregory Read of Danville, Keturah Hart Bracey of San Francisco, and Daniel Lucius Edward Bracey of Charlottesville. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
