In grain business in New York City 1881-87, at first as partner in firm of H. T. Kneeland & Company and from 1882 as member of firm of Brooks, Roy & Anthony; partner in firm of Brooks Brothers, clothiers, in which his brothers, John E. Brooks, '6$, and Walter Brooks, '77, were also partners, 1887-1903; vice-president of the company 1903-1918; chairman of the board since 1918; member St. Thomas's Episcopal Church, New York.
Married (1) August 1,1883, in Jamestown, R. I., Elinor Gertrude, daughter of Albert Mathewson and Josephine Dixon (Frost) Stokes. One son, Harold, '09. Mrs. Brooks died April 2, 1884.
Married (2) April 27,1887, in Brooklyn, N. YT, Lucy Slade, daughter of Alexander Lyman Holley (Ph.B. Brown 1853, LL.D. 1878) and Mary (Slade) Holley. Children: Winthrop Holley, '15; and Mary Holley, the wife of Ashbel T. Wall, Jr. (B.A. Princeton 1914). Mrs. Brooks died November 1, 1918.
Married (3) March 29, 1922, in New York City, Louise Beggs Sproul, daughter of Carter Curtis and Elizabeth (Dilworth) Beggs.
Death due to thrombosis. Buried in Green-Wood Cemetery,
Brooklyn. Survived by wife, two sons, daughter, six grandchildren, a stepson, Harry Sproul, ex-*16, a sister, Adelaide Brooks Baylis, widow of William Baylis (B.A. Princeton 1868), of New York City, and brother, Walter Brooks (died March 26, 1933). His brother, John E. Brooks, died in 1913.
