NOCONA - Funeral services for Willie Verne Shields, 99, of Nocona will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Lamoin Champ and the Rev. Don Hendrix officiating.

Burial will be in Petersburg Cemetery at 5 p.m. Monday by Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona.

Mrs. Shields died Saturday, Aug. 24, 2002, in Horizon Manor Nursing Home. She was born Sept. 22, 1902, in El Dorado, Okla., to James Robert Eakin and Elizabeth Debra Sledge.

She was a bookkeeper for Clover Lake Creamery for 25 years. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, the Business Professional Women´s Club, Rebekah Lodge, the Alturas Club and the Las Camaradas Club.

Her husband, Jesse Lafayette Shields, died in 1944. Survivors include one daughter, Dorothy Jean Trout of Nocona; two daughters-in-law, Jean Shields of Nocona and JoAnn Shields of Andrews; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A son, Kenneth, died in 1982 and another son, Ray, died in 2000. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Shields, Matt Shields, Michael Shields, Amy Shields, Jenny Akins and Lance Akins. Honorary pallbearers will be Michael Trout, Jesse Trout, Daniel Trout and Mike Akins. The family suggests memorials to the Nocona Meals on Wheels or to Bethel Baptist Church.
