Mittie was the daughter of "Billy" and Ella Maxwell;
She was born and raised in the New Zion community of Lawrence County, MS.
She tried being a school teacher for a while, but gave this up after one year.
Next, she went to Jackson, MS and entered nursing school.
This school closed shortly after WW 1 started. She was able to continue her nurses training at the hospital in Poplarville, MS. Here she was introduced to Clive Williams, nephew of Dr. Simon Williams.
