Geneva Mashburn - ERWIN
ERWIN – Mrs. Geneva Mashburn, Age 91, 119 Mashburn Lane, Erwin, died Thursday, March 18, 2010, in the Unicoi County Memorial Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Unicoi County and a daughter of the late C.W. and Nancy Howell Garland. Mrs. Mashburn was a teacher, having retired from the Unicoi County School System in 1979 after years of service.

She was a member of the Shallow Ford Baptist Church, where she had taught the Ladies Sunday School Class for many years and served as director of the Vacation Bible School.

Mrs. Mashburn had served on the Unicoi County Election Committee and had served as past secretary of the Unicoi County Republican Party. She was a member of the National Education Association, an avid Blue Devil baseball fan and would always have a big bucket of bubble gum for the team. Mrs. Mashburn enjoyed trips with members of the Senior Citizens Center.

Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Mashburn on May 20, 2005; a daughter, Jennifer Mashburn, on December 9, 2004; two brothers, Howard and Clifton Garland; three sisters, Mae Hice, Georgia Buchanan and Elise Edwards; and a nephew, Charles Lawson.

Survivors include grandsons: Todd Edwards and wife, Kim, and Russell Edwards and wife, Katie, all of Erwin; Great grandsons, Carter Edwards and Derrick Peterson, of Erwin; Brother, James L. Garland and wife, Muriel, of Jacksonville, Florida; Sister, Flora Smith, of Erwin; A very special son-in-law, Arnie Edwards, of Erwin; Sister-in-law, Louise Garland, of Erwin; One niece and five nephews; many great nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Mrs. Mashburn will be held Sunday, March 21, 2010, at 4:00 P.M. in the Shallow Ford Baptist Church. Reverend James Lynch will officiate. Mark Stevens will share two of Mrs. Mashburn's favorite poems. Music will be provided by Stephanie Bailey and Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be Jack and Jamie Tipton, Tim and Tom Bowman, Charlie Baxter, Kenneth Lewis and Ronnie Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until service time Sunday at the church and other times at the residence of the sister, Flora Smith, 924 Hoback Avenue, Erwin.

Committal service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family, minister, pallbearers and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Monday to go in procession to the cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thanks for the kindness and care given to Mrs. Mashburn and her family by caregivers at the Center on Aging and Health. A special thanks to Flo Smith, "The world's best sister."
