Burgan Millard Ducker, 74, of 1 1/2 Bordeau Place, Asheville died Friday in an Asheville hospital following a long illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, he was a retired employee of the Hayes & Lunsford Electrical Company and was formerly employed by the City of Asheville Water Department. He was also self-employed with the Farmers Market. He was a member of Union Baptist Church and was the son of the late James Franklin and Reedie Snelson Ducker.
Surviving are his wife, Ledie Viola Kicklighter Ducker; a son, Burgan M. Ducker Jr. of Asheville; seven daughters, Irene Maxwell of Jupiter, Hilda Bynum, Jean Burris, Annette Brown, all of Asheville, Martha Parker of Swannanoa, Wilma Ross of Spokane, Washington, and Linda Wilson of Augusta, Georgia; a sister, Graces Kappas of Streetsboro, Ohio; three brothers, Gordon Ducker of Houston, Texas and Von and Jeter Ducker of Asheville; 21 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home. The Revs. Alfred Sellers and Lawrence Lindsay will officiate. Burial will be in Snelson Family Cemetery in Leicester.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
