Willie Lawrence Warren, 94, of Greensburg, son of the late Rue Saw Warren and Betty Will Money Warren, was born Aug. 28, 1912 in Taylor County and departed this life Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at Green Hill Manor Nursing Facility. He was 94 years, nine months and two days of age. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of Sand Lick Separate Baptist Church. During his lifetime, he was a farmer, horse and mule trader and owned a general store in Gabe. He served as deputy sheriff of Green County from 1946-1954, first under Sheriff Boyce Hudson and then Sheriff Bill Davis. In 1954, he joined the Greensburg City Police and served until 1957. In the early 1960s, he again served with the City police force. In 1970, he was elected sheriff of Green County and served four years. He united in marriage to Elsie Ree Stearman Dec. 24, 1934, who preceded him in death Nov. 17, 1984. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law: William Lewis and Sandra Warren, Shelby and LeEtta Warren of Ohio and Jerry and Karen Warren of Greensburg; a daughter and son-in-law: Donna Jean and Everett McCubbin of Summersville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother: Harlan and his wife Agnes Warren of Campbellsville; a sister: Hardie and her husband Johnny Pawley of Vine Grove and a sister-in-law: Beatrice Stearman. The funeral services for Warren were conducted June 2 at Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home with burial in Green County Memory Gardens. Bro. Chuck Pollard officiated.
