Mrs. Mary Bateman Dies at 84 Years
Mrs. Mary Bateman of Brant, passed away on April 5 at the age of 84 years. Born in Minnesota, Mrs. Bateman came with her husband, the late Henry Bateman to Alberta, in 1904, and with their family they settled near Brant. They lived there till Mr. Bateman's death in 1916. Surviving members of the family are two sons, George of Brant, and Lac Ken Bateman of the R.C.A.F. stationed at Alliford Bay, B.C.; and two daughters, Mrs. Mitten of Blackie and Mrs. Boetticher of Melrose, Montana.
Older residents of Brant district recall the many kindnesses of Mrs. Bateman in the early days. She was a mother to the community - her home was the stopping place for all weary travellers. During her active years she took a leading and helpful part in the development of the district and community organizations.
Funeral services will be held from Blackie on Thursday at 2.30 with arrangements in charge of the Snodgrass Funeral Home.
The pallbearers consisted of the following former old-time neighbors and good friends; Dave Bertram, Homer Wilderman, Wilbur Richardson, Albert Swartz, Gus Spanke, J. F. Casteel.
