Donald's wife Kate died suddenly in 1925. When daughter Grace married later that year, Donald and adopted son Arthur joined the newlyweds' household in Pittsburgh. Sometime in the 1930s, Donald moved out of the home of his son-in-law and daughter. At some later point he lived in a boarding house on the North Side, where his daughter Grace and granddaughter Virginia visited him.
In the 1940 census, Donald Parker was a renter at 10 East Stockton Street on the North Side, a multi-family building that housed 23 people (singles, couples, and one small family). His death certificate lists his address as 723 Pressley Street. He died at the Woodville state hospital after a four-day stay.
