A funeral for Mrs. Margaret Baylor Selby, a retired Richmond public school teacher, was held today at Woody Funeral Home's Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Road. Burial was to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park on Patterson Avenue.
Mrs. Selby died Jan. 1 at her son's residence in Guam at age 72.
A native of Staunton, Mrs. Selby received a bachelor's degree of science from Madison College, now James Madison University, in 1941.
She began her teaching career at the former Battlefield Park High School in Hanover County in the early 1940s. A couple years later, she left teaching for awhile and was a secretary for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
Mrs. Selby returned to teaching a couple of years later in Richmond Schools, and during the next quarter century taught at other city schools, including Westhampton Elementary, Binford Middle and Greene Elementary. In the early 1950s, she also taught in Augusta County public schools.
She retired after 27 years teaching in 1976.
Survivors include her husband, R.V. Selby of Richmond; a son, Robert Vance Selby of Guam; four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Sanderson of Richmond; Mrs. Agnes Murphy of Palm Coast, Fla.; Mrs. Nancy Lorraine of California and Mrs. Caroline Harper of Richmond; and a brother, George Baylor of Craigsville.
