He served in World War II with the 12th Armored Div. (Army). He was a Scout in the 92nd Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron during the European invasion campaign, seeing action in France and Germany. He was part of the "Mystery Division" under Gen. George Patton during the Battle of the Bulge and as a Scout, was first on site for numerous concentration camp liberations.Decorations include American Campaign Medal, European Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal.

Joe retired from Homelite Corp. in 1983 after 35 years.He and his wife, Geraldine, were married for 67 years. They moved to Marco Island in 1991. They enjoyed playing golf and spending time on the beach during their retirement years.

He is survived by his wife Geraldine; children, Joseph R. Beltrame (Lois)and Diana (Phil)Thompson; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
