Floyd W. Burks was born on Aug. 23, 1933 to Edgar and Eva Burks on the family farm near Grant, Okla., where he was raised. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the age of 76.

Floyd graduated from Grant High School and Southeastern State Univery (Durant) then completed his masters degree.

He was also an U.S. Army veteran serving as a Sgt. during the Korean War. Floyd taught and coached then became a principal. The family moved to Shawnee where Floyd was Math Coordinator who quickly became Assistant Superintendent. Floyd left the education field and for many years worked as a self employed commodities broker.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Evelene and several aunts and uncles.

Floyd married Betty O. Park on Dec. 30, 1953 and to this union were born two daughters, Cheryl A. Burks and Cynthia C. Burks; four grandchildren, Angela M. Martin, Brandy N. Martin, Jonathan M. Burks-Strader and Emily J. Burks; five great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends survive him.

Graveside service honoring Floyd's life will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, at the Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee under the direction of Caskets Inc & Johnson Funeral Service of Del City.
