My first cousin, Sybil Dora Heflin Smith, of Ladson, SC, died March 22, 2010, in North Charleston, SC.

She was born on April 6, 1929, in Catlett, VA, a daughter of the late Guy Gerry Gelesper Heflin and Rosa Sherman Heflin. Her deceased siblings were Adine Heflin Mauck, Elzada "Mickey" Guy, and Shirley Heflin (brother). She also left a number of nephews and nieces and cousins.

Her paternal grandparents were Angeline Kane Heflin and James Wm. Heflin who were born in the 1850s.

Mrs. Smith was a former bookkeeper for the Woolworth Company Department Stores.

Sybil possessed a generous and happy personality, and all who knew her felt blessed to hear her joyous laugh - her laugh was unforgettable. She brought fun to family gatherings and public events she attended. She must have always looked on the sunny side of life - I thought.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ralph E. Smith and is survived by her son, Ronald E. Smith, Ladson, SC; daughter, Linda Diane Smith of Ladson, SC; one brother, Selvin Heflin, Catlett, VA and two grandchildren, Ryan and Ross Smith.

Interment was in Catlett Cemetery where a number of friends and family laid her to rest on March 25th next to her husband on a warm spring day.

Note: Her brother Selvin Heflin died at age 90 on Feb. 8, 2015.
