Norman E. Bemount, 29, of Parkersburg, an employee of General Telephone Co. of Illinois was killed by a high voltage electric shock Monday morning when a telephone pole which he was handling came in contact with a power line in Clay County.

The accident happened northeast of Flora, near the Tony Sehie Farm.

With Bemount at the work site were two other General Telephone employees, Marvin Poland of Lawrenceville and Jim Kuenstler of Olney.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Clay County Hospital in Flora, where he was taken by ambulance.

He was born June 25, 1938 in Richland County, the son of Norman N. Bemount and Nettie Brooks Bemount.

His father died June 15, 1948, but his mother survives.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959.

Survivors are his mother, Nettie; a brother, Monte Bemount of Parkersburg; and two sisters, Ramona Kay Paddick of Sumner and Miss Katrina Sue Weaver; and a grandmother, Mrs. Hettie Brooks of Olney.

Services at Summers-Rainey Funeral Home in Olney with Rev. Henry Wortman of Sumner officiating.

Interment in the Haven Hill Cemetery.
