Alice M. "Casey" Dunlay, 84, of Parsons died at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 21, 2010, at her home surrounded by her family. She had been in her usual health until recently.
She was born June 3, 1925, in Parsons to George and Stella (Gouvion) Casey. She lived with her family in St. Paul as a child and moved to Parsons during her third-grade year. She was a 1943 graduate of Parsons High School and eagerly participated in organizing class reunions.
In 1945, Casey earned the title of USO Donut Queen, and as a result traveled to New York City and Washington, D.C., where she was crowned by Vice President Harry Truman.
She was employed by the Katy Railroad from 1943 until 1953 and later by Day and Zimmerman Inc. in the Safety Department at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant for more than 20 years.
She was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and its Altar Society.
She married James J. "Jerry" Dunlay on Oct. 11, 1947, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. He preceded her in death on March 8, 2003.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Dunlay of Phoenix and Terry Dunlay and his wife, Sherry, of Parsons; three daughters, Peggy Dunlay of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Patti Dunlay of Kansas City, Mo., and Jane Easley and her husband, Bill, of Tulsa; five grandchildren, Patrick Easley, Casey Easley, Shannon Dunlay, Bridget Dunlay and Riley Dunlay; and a sister, Marlene Trenkle of Leawood.
The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery. The rosary will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons, where the family will receive friends immediately following the rosary.
