Ralph N. Cloyd was born August 2, 1915, in Billings, Montana. He moved to Sheridan, Wyoming in 1923 with his parents. He graduated from Sheridan High School in 1933 and the University of Wyoming in 1943, after having taught several years in Sheridan County rural schools. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1943 to 1946 as a Captain in Communications in Africa. He taught mathematics at Sheridan High School from 1946 until his retirement in 1977, with a two year break when he was called back into service for the Korean affair. He also was in the Wyoming National Guard, where he served as a Battery Commander and Battalion Commander, when he retired as a Lt. Col. in 1967.
Ralph married Roberta Severance in June, 1938. She also taught in Sheridan schools, and 1956, became the director and teacher of the Community Nursery School, a position she held until 1975, when she quit to enjoy a quieter life of hobbies. The Cloyds had two children, Martha Joanne, now Mrs. Lee Groskopf of Rapid City, South Dakota. She graduated from the University of Wyoming and is an R.N. Robert R. Cloyd is a graduate of Creighton University and Creighton Dental School and is a dentist in Post Fall, Idaho.
