Al Chester, 77, of Altus, died Saturday morning, June 13, 2009 at his home in Altus. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Kincannon Funeral Home, with Reverend William Estep officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow the service at the Altus City Cemetery, under direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Allie Walter Chester was born May 20, 1932 in Elmore City, Oklahoma, to Allie and Alva (Robertson) Chester. He attended school in Pauls Valley, Ok. and later graduated from Draughns Business School in Wichita Falls, TX. He married Jo Ann Smith on November 15, 1952, in Frederick, Oklahoma. Al was a truck driver and concrete finisher until a work related disability forced him into retirement in 1977. He was an avid fisherman that also loved to restore old cars and pick-ups. He loved cooking, working at the church, and most of all spending time with his family. Mr. Chester was an active member of the Altus Church of God. He is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Danny Chester; two brothers, Dale and G.W.; and two sisters, June and Debbie. Surviving Mr. Chester is his wife, JoAnn, of the home: Four sons; Dennis Chester and wife, Shirley, of Iowa Park, TX, Donnie Chester and wife Melinda, of Iowa Park, TX, Shannon Chester of Altus, OK, and Dewight Chester of Huntsville, TX: A brother, Burl Chester and wife Georgina, of Sanger, TX; seven sisters; Lucille Holsey of Altus, OK; Loretha, of TX; Shirley of Carrollton, TX; Mildred Slovak and husband Robert of Corsicana, TX; Joy Bell of Waco, TX; Bonnie Wossum and husband Bobby of Lubbock, TX; Laura of Tulsa, OK; The Chester Family will greet friends Monday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
