ANDERSON — Dr. Richard Lee Canada passed away March 20, 2010, at his home while being cared for by his wife of 36 years . . ..

He was born in Anderson Nov. 11, 1934, to Chester and Easter (Atkinson) Canada.

He graduated from Anderson High School and attended Ball State University for pre-medical studies and graduated 1958 from Illinois College of Chiropody and Foot Surgery in Chicago, Ill., as a doctor of Podiatric Medicine.

Upon receiving his degree he was immediately drafted by the U.S. Army and served in Korea in a U.S. Army Evacuation Hospital.

Locally, Richard was well known as an accomplished drummer and for many years played with Walt Helmic's group and sat in as a drummer whenever he was called.

He practiced Podiatry and foot surgery in Anderson until 1974 when he joined the Veterans Administration and served as a podiatrist and consultant for the Knoxville and Des Moines, Iowa VA hospitals. He also had a private practice in Knoxville and Des Moines, Iowa, from 1979-1989.

Richard is survived by . . ..

He was preceded in death by his parents and two stepsons, Thomas Hart and Ray Hart Jr.

Dr. Canada donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program of the Indiana School of Medicine. His remains will be cremated later and interred at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
