A service was held Friday for Ray W. Chandler, who died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at his Bellingham home. He was 89.
Mr. Chandler was born Feb. 3, 1911, in Hill City, Kan., to Clarence and Alice (Shrimplin) Chandler. A U.S. Navy veteran who was injured at Guadalcanal in the South Pacific, he worked as a tile setter and a rancher.
Mr. Chandler was a past member of the American Polled Hereford Association, National Pigeon Association and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He raised pigeons, painted and wrote. He wrote "Free State Settlers."
He was preceded in death by a son, Steve Chandler, and by his wives, Edith, Arlene and Patricia.
Survivors include sons Jack Chandler of Bellevue and Will Chandler of Deer Park daughters Rita Huddleston of Priest River, Idaho, and Alice Braninburg of Portland, Ore. seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Greenacres Funeral Home and Memorial Park.
