MARION: Hazel J. (Garver) Osterholt, age 81, of Marion, died early Tuesday afternoon, March 23, 2010, at the Kingston Residence.

On September 8, 1928, Hazel was born in Custar, Ohio, one of eight children of the late Harold and Myrtle (Sealy) Powers. She was a graduate of Marion Harding High School in the Class of 1946.

Hazel married her first husband, the late Russell R. Garver, on December 10, 1948. Together they raised two children, Susan and Russell II, and shared over twenty five years of marriage. He preceded her in death on April 9, 1974.

Getting a second chance at love, Hazel married her loving husband, Hollis "Holly" Osterholt, on July 3, 1980, at the First Presbyterian Church. They have enjoyed nearly thirty years of marriage. He survives her in Marion.

With a heart of gold, Hazel truly loved to be surrounded by her family and friends, and most especially her grandchildren. Her hobbies included golfing, reading and crossword puzzles.

For over ten years, Hazel worked for the Marion County Sherriff's Department, from where she retired.

A woman of faith, Hazel was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Marion.

Hazel will be dearly missed by her husband, Holly Osterholt; her daughter, Susan (Robert) Lombard of Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, and their two children, Stephanie (John) Adams of Clarksburg, West Virginia, and Niki (Tre) Bushell of Sandpoint, Idaho; her son, Russell (Debra) Garver II of Dublin, and their children, Christa (Claus) Ullstad of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Matthew Garver of Columbus; three brothers, Richard Powers, David (Barb) Powers, both of Marion, H. Phillip (Linda) Powers of Esko, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Ruth Powers of Glen Burnie, Maryland; a brother-in-law, Robert Reaves of Ocala, Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Including her first husband; and parents; Hazel was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd and Arthur "Gene" Powers; and two sisters, Thelma Reaves and Lois Karns.

Hazel's family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 E. Center St., Marion, where services celebrating Hazel's life will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Thomas Mori officiating. Burial will follow in Claridon Cemetery.
