Harley M. Barber
Rock Island
Harley Marion Barber II passed away at home in Rock Island on March 17, 2006.
He was born to Harley and Laura (Patton) Barber in Atchison, Kansas on November 27, 1922, the youngest of six children.
During WWII, Harley served in Belgium and Germany as a supply truck driver in the 311th Infantry Anti-tank Co. of the 78th Lightning Division.
Upon return to the U.S., he met Dora Andrus and they were married November 13, 1946, in Kansas. The family moved to the Wenatchee area in 1951, to harvest apples. They then settled in Rock Island in 1955, where Harley worked for Keokuk. This later became Silicon Metaltech from which he
retired in 1990, after 39 years.
Harley was a devoted husband and father who provided for a good education and instilled strong values in his children. He passed on his love of learning, exploring, travel, and astronomy to many of us.
Harley is survived by his wife, Dora of 59 years; his sons, Harley III (Stephanie) of Bellingham, Lloyd (Pat) of South Prairie; his daughters, Tisha of Wenatchee, Nancy (Alex) Betancourt of
Rock Island and Merrie (Warren) Davis of Wenatchee; eight grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Valley View Seventh-day Adventist Church on Friday, March 24, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Betts Funeral Service.
