OBITUARY, The Sioux City Journal, 17 September 2008:

Kirk Anfinson, 58, of Holstein died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holstein United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Russ L. Burnett officiating. Burial will be in Holstein Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion F. Roger Baumann Post 624 of Cushing, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Holstein.

Kirk was born October 25, 1949, in Ida Grove, the son of Raymond and Minabelle (Huffman) Anfinson. He attended Cushing schools and graduated in 1968 from Eastwood High School. He attended one year of college before enlisting in the 185th Air National Guard.

He married Connie Johnson on July 29, 1972, in Holstein. Two sons were born to this union, Seth and Bryan. He was a grain and hog producer for 25 years. He also worked off the farm as a feed salesman and at a hog confinement. He was a member of Holstein United Methodist Church, the Cushing American Legion and a former member of the Ida County Pork Producers.

His greatest joys were his sons, being outdoors and doing carpenter work. He fought his battle with multiple sclerosis with a strong faith and courage. His sense of humor and beautiful smile will be missed. He touched many lives.

He will be lovingly missed by his wife, Connie; two sons, Seth of Des Moines and Bryan of Vermillion, S.D.; a grandson, Benjamin; his mother of Waverly, Iowa; his brothers and their wives, Jerry and Monica of Morristown, Tennessee, and Gregg and Cindy of Waverly, Iowa; his mother-in-law, Esther Johnson of Holstein; brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Johnson of Holstein, Ronald and Carol Maymon of Schaller, Iowa, and Greg and Donna Johnson of Holstein; nieces and nephews; and devoted friend, Marlene Jepsen of Holstein.

He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; a brother, Mark; his father-in-law, Harvey Johnson; and a niece, Laura Johnson. Memorials in his name may be sent to the Iowa Multiple Sclerosis Society, 8187 University Blvd., Suite B, Clive, Iowa.
